10 Tips for beginners!

1. Know the Pageant System You Are Competing In

There are so many different pageant systems out there—make sure you thoroughly research the specific system you're entering. Each has its own unique values, judging criteria, and expectations.

2. Practice, Practice, Practice

You don't need to hire a pageant coach if you're just starting out, but your best friend will be consistent practice. Talk in front of your mirror and walk around your house in your heels before your pageant. It's especially important to break in your heels before competing to avoid discomfort on the big day.

3. Choose Your Wardrobe Based on YOU

Your wardrobe pieces should showcase your unique personality. Have fun selecting outfits that help reveal who you are to the judges. Your clothing should feel authentic to you while meeting the requirements of your pageant system.

4. Be Confident

Confidence is a crucial element of pageantry. The judges want to see you own the stage and take control of your interview. Displaying genuine confidence shows them why you deserve the crown and helps you stand out from the competition.

5. Focus on You

Don't let yourself get distracted by your competitors. It's extremely easy to compare yourself to the other contestants, but remember—you belong there just as much as anyone else does. Stay focused on your own performance and avoid getting in your head.

6. Prioritize Your Wellbeing

Pageant weekend can be incredibly stressful. It's vital to take care of yourself throughout the process. Drink plenty of water, don't skip meals, and make sure you're getting adequate rest between events.

7. Make Memories

Although pageants are competitions, they truly foster a sisterhood. I've met many of my closest friends through pageantry. Don't hesitate to reach out to other competitors—chances are they're just as nervous as you are! These connections can last a lifetime.

8. Know Your Talking Points

Going into your interview, it's important to have 3-4 key talking points that really showcase who you are to the judges. Know these topics inside and out so you can naturally incorporate them into any conversation.

9. Do Not Be Discouraged

It can be very disheartening to walk away from a pageant you've worked extremely hard for without a win. Don't be discouraged—everything happens for a reason. It simply wasn't your time. Use this experience as motivation for your next pageant.

10. HAVE FUN!

Above all, pageants are about having fun. Crown or no crown, take it all in. This is an experience you'll never forget, so enjoy every moment of the journey!
